TELPAS Tutorial

The TELPAS tutorial was created to help students become familiar with online testing. The tutorial will show students how to move through a test, use tools in the test, and work with reading, listening, and speaking questions. It is recommended that you perform the Headset Test prior to starting the TELPAS Tutorial to ensure the headset is setup correctly. The Headset Test is located in the TestNav app under the "Practice Tests" link.

TELPAS Reading Practice Test Administration Directions

Prior to using the practice test(s) with students, you should familiarize yourself with the administration directions. As with the TELPAS reading administration directions to be used with the operational assessments, the practice test administration directions are designed to take into account the difficulties that some ELLs may have understanding oral directions in English, as well as some students' limited experience with standardized testing. You may adjust the language and specificity of the directions to the level of English proficiency of your students. Administration directions for each practice test are available in one publication at the link below.

TELPAS Reading Released Tests

The TEA provides TELPAS reading released tests in the online interface used for the spring administration. Districts can administer these released tests to students for diagnostic purposes. TestNav 8 does not generate a test summary. If you would like to score your student's practice test, you should direct your student to record his or her answers on a separate sheet of paper. Then you can use the answer key below to score the practice test. To determine a student's proficiency level rating, use the appropriate TELPAS reading raw score conversion table located on TEA’s website at

NOTE: Students must complete tests in one sitting. Student’s answers cannot be saved to resume later.
